Focus on research

Proud, Artevelde University College Ghent

Ghent University - Research of the Department of Personnel Management, Work & Organizational Psychology focuses on obtaining a better understanding of human behavior in the workplace. Throughout numerous (inter)national projects, faculty members’ research is groundbreaking, impactful, and practically relevant and is disseminated in premier academic journals. The team conducts research in a broad and varied range of topics. These include – but are not limited to:

  • HRM: Managerial Assessment, Situational Judgment Tests and High Stakes Selection, Employer Branding and Organizational Attractiveness, Adverse impact;
  • Organizational Behavior: Feedback, Motivation, Learning, Proactive and innovative behavior;
  • Occupational Health Psychology: Work stress and job demands;
  • Organizational Research Methods: Survey and Scale Design;
  • Consumer Research: green consumption, technology-based consumption;
  • Assessment: Emotions and emotion intelligence, Bias and equivalence.

For example, the Department was one of the pioneers to embed constructs from marketing such as the instrumental-symbolic framework and word-of-mouth into this domain. This is relevant as applicants’ job search and decision-making processes have a lot of parallels with consumers’ product choice in high involvement purchase decisions. They also discovered how feedback interventions can be facilitated by reflection interventions, identified the main affective and cognitive mechanisms of feedback interventions, and examined under which conditions the best learning effects are to be expected.

Artevelde University College Ghent - ProuD! stands for Pedagogical, reflective, orgulous and useable Documenting! The goal of the ProuD research is to design a tool for reflexive and collective learning in early childhood education and care, and pre-school education. The tool is tested and modified by means of different focus groups, a logbook and in close collaboration with 25 practitioners from nine different organizations in both Belgium and Finland. Inspired by the importance of reflection for practitioners in early childhood and pre-school education, this tool facilitates the use of pedagogical documentation as a means for peers (colleagues) to reflect on their daily practices, and grow accordingly.
